6 Ways To Organize Your Bathroom

6 Ways To Organize Your Bathroom

It’s a daunting task, but it simply must be done.  The time has come to organize your bathroom.  By organizing, I mean throwing out makeup and products that are expired.  Cleaning out cabinets & drawers, and putting things in organizational bins and boxes.  I know it really doesn’t sound like fun, and the process is not meant to be, however, you will feel so good once you see how organized everything will look.  Imagine how wonderful it would be to find what you’re looking for right away, without having to rummage through a cabinet filled with endless products and knocking them out of the cabinets like I do.  All it really takes is a good cleaning once a year.  If your unsure about what to do with these items, well, that is what I’m here for.  Think of me as your organizational “guru”.

Bins For Your Hair Products

Have tons of products lying around in the cabinet under your sink.  Grab a couple of cute bins and start organizing.  Choose separate bins for hair products, lotions, etc.  It is so much easier to take the entire bin out, and all of your products are there to choose from.  Besides being organized, your cabinet will look much cleaner too:)

Clean Out Your Makeup

Before you organize your makeup, you must get rid of products that are expired.  Here is the guideline for expired makeup.

  • Lipsticks, glosses, concealers, and foundation- 2 years
  • Mascara- 3-6 months
  • Eyeliner and lip pencils- 5 years
  • Eyeshadow- 2 years

Once you’ve cleaned, then it is time to organize.  I actually wrote a post not to long ago, about organizing your makeup.  Here’s a recap.  Click here to read the post.

Ideas For Organizing Your Makeup

Here’s another organizing, space-saving option, a makeup train case!

Baskets and Boxes

Roll up towels and put in cute baskets to keep your cabinets looking simplified and neat.  Purchase or repurpose boxes, for small odds and ends.  Believe it or not, this is actually a wine box, that I am using for small hair accessories in my cabinet.  Having a “pretty” cabinet is especially important when you have glass doors like I do.

Organize Your Drawers With Trays

Placing trays inside your drawers, helps to keep things neat and organized.  If you have the space, try to put specific products in each tray.  For example, this tray holds my skin care products.

Repurposing Boxes To Keep Things Tidy

For those of you  wondering what in the heck this is, I do not have a medicine cabinet, I have a medicine box.  Let me start off by saying that I have quite the collection of over the counter meds.  They use to be all over the bottom of my sink cabinet, until I found this fabulous box, lol.  This is actually the box from my Clairsonic face brush.  After I unpacked it, I couldn’t bear to throw away this nice looking, sturdy box.  I knew it had a purpose, but wasn’t sure what that purpose was.  One day it dawned on me, it’s the perfect box for my collection of cold meds, etc.  So that became their new home.  Now when you look under my cabinet, you don’t see tons of little boxes and containers, all you see is one beautiful, FREE, red box.  Nothing like a little repurposing!!

Apothecary Jars And Bath Canisters Are Everything

This is an easy one.  Who wants to go into a drawer or cabinet, bag or box every time you need a cotton ball or q-tip.  They do it in hotels, so why can’t you do it at home.  It’s simple, just get yourself some cute containers.  You can run out and purchase specific containers for this purpose, like I did from Home Goods and Target, or you can get creative.  Use candle holders that have been cleaned out, cool vintage drinking glasses, stainless containers, or candy jars from the dollar store.  Make sure to check GoodWill, flea markets and garage sales.  They always have cool containers and glassware floating around.

While we’re cleaning out products and organizing the bathroom, I think we need to talk about makeup brushes as well.  I’ve posted in the past about choosing new brushes, but I haven’t discussed with you, when it is time to buy new brushes.

Replace Makeup Brushes When:

  • Makeup is going on spotty or patchy
  • Brushes are shedding
  • Brushes are misshapen
  • There are cracks in handles, this is important, because those cracks can harbor bacteria which transfers to hands and face.

Make sure to clean your brushes once a week.  I like to store them upright so that the bristles don’t lose their shape.

Remember, simplifying and organizing, helps to create peace of mind.
